The Anti-Corruption Office
of the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office in Cabo Delgado revealed this week that
most of the nurses and teachers recently hired in the Health and Education
sectors were forced to pay bribes in order to secure their positions.
The revelation was made by
Prosecutor Amilton Menete during the celebrations of the African
Anti-Corruption Day.
According to Menete, the Health and Education sectors have become prime targets of corruption schemes, where promises of public employment are often tied to illegal payment demands.
“In recent times, corruption cases involving the Health sector have been on the rise. We are also seeing the same trend in the Education sector,” he stated.
Additionally, many of the
new public employees recently admitted are known to be relatives and acquaintances
of public institution managers. (Mozanorte)
