A brutal murder has shaken the community of Macomia, in Cabo
Delgado province, after a man killed his own brother-in-law with a machete on the afternoon of July 26, 2025. The incident, which
took place in a farm in the Nambaua area, is alleged to have been motivated by
excessive alcohol consumption.
The victim and the assailant, identified as brothers-in-law
and supposedly close friends, had shared life and work on the farm for about
three years. Their coexistence, marked by joint cultivation and daily
activities side-by-side, ended tragically.
According to local sources, the fatality was triggered by a
trivial dispute: the victim's sandal, used as firewood and burned by the
assailant. Both individuals involved were under the strong influence of
alcohol, a daily and common habit between them, as reported.
Drunkenness is pointed to as a crucial factor
that escalated the disagreement to extreme violence. The assailant, known as Camilo in the Changane neighborhood,
reacted disproportionately to the sandal incident, wielding a machete and
delivering fatal blows to his brother-in-law.
The crime scene, isolated and difficult to access, with
other people one to two kilometers away, facilitated the attempt to conceal the
body. After committing the crime, Camilo tried to hide the victim's body in a
dense, inaccessible bush. However, bloodstains left at the scene allowed the
body to be found.
Following the heinous act, Camilo fled to an unknown
destination, leaving behind a shocked community and a grieving family. The
victim's burial occurred this morning, July
27, around 10 AM, on the farm itself.
The tragedy has sparked deep outrage among family members
and residents of Nambaua and the Changane neighborhood, who are crying out for
justice, a local resident said, adding that "police authorities have
already been notified, and the community demands thoroughness in the
investigation and capture of the perpetrator." (BP)
