Population questions the performance of the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) in operations against insurgents in Memba and Eráti

While, in official discourse, authorities highlight the commitment of the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) in combating insurgents who have been causing instability in Memba district, some voices within the communities claim that the on-the-ground response has not met expectations.

According to reports gathered by Mozanorte, there is discontent among residents of Eráti, who say they reported the presence of insurgent groups but allege that the FDS did not advance promptly to neutralize the threats, allowing the attackers to continue causing casualties and damage in the villages.

Local sources also reported that on the morning of Thursday (21/11), a group of insurgents was seen preparing meals in the Jakottho area, between Alua and Odinepa. During the same period, according to these accounts, the FDS allegedly remained stationed in the village of Negoro, a location with favorable access for vehicles but far from the point where the insurgents were located.

Despite these reports raising concerns among the population, the governor of Nampula province, Salimo Abdula, and the Secretary of State, Plácido Pereira, assure that the FDS remain on alert and continue working to expel insurgent groups and restore security throughout the northern region of the province.

The authorities call for calm and strengthened community cooperation, stressing that reporting suspicious movements remains essential for the success of defense operations. (Mozanorte)
