Local authority advocates for the legalization of artisanal mining in Nguendi and Chimbalala

The Head of the Locality of Njesse, in Sanga, António Mohamed, as part of his work plan, visited the artisanal mining sites of Nguendi, Chinbumdi and Chimbalala, with the aim of assessing the situation of mineral exploitation and reinforcing the need for its legalization.

The visit is part of efforts by local authorities to ensure that the exploitation of mineral resources takes place in a legal, safe and environmentally responsible manner, effectively contributing to local economic development and increasing State revenues.

During the visit, the official noted that mining activity is still being carried out informally, without licensing from the competent authorities.

According to him, this situation is a cause for concern, as in addition to violating the law, it exposes operators and neighboring communities to security, environmental and social risks.

In light of this scenario, the Head of the Locality recommended that the miners immediately begin the legalization process, advising them to process the necessary documentation with the relevant district services.

He emphasized that formalizing the activity will allow for greater organization, transparency and shared benefits. “We want legal and safe mining that brings benefits to everyone. The State must receive what is due to it, and the population must feel that their resources are being well managed,” Mohamed stated.

The official also highlighted that legalization will make it possible to ensure regular tax payments, improve working conditions and provide access to community development programs essential factors for the sustainable progress of the locality of Njesse.

On the occasion, he also appealed to miners and community leaders to strengthen local vigilance and report any suspicious presence of individuals or groups that may use mining activity for illicit purposes.

The initiative demonstrates the commitment of local authorities to strengthening the State’s presence, ensuring compliance with the law and promoting responsible exploitation of natural resources in the district of Sanga, an area of high economic and strategic potential. (Ma Mataka)
