At least 46 orphaned children from the Namiuta neighborhood, in Chiúre District, Cabo Delgado Province, are at risk of missing the school year that begins in the coming days due to a lack of basic conditions to remain in school.
According to accounts from guardians and caregivers, the main challenge is the shortage of school supplies such as notebooks, as well as the lack of uniforms factors that could seriously compromise these children’s ability to continue their studies.
They say their financial situation does not allow them to purchase new school materials for the children in their care.
They are appealing for urgent intervention from the relevant authorities, requesting support not only for orphans in the Namiuta neighborhood, but also for other children in similar situations in the Municipal Town and throughout Chiúre District. They stress that this social group faces enormous challenges in accessing and remaining within the education system, and that even minimal support could help guarantee this right.
The request for assistance also extends to children with disabilities, who require special educational support at the district level in Chiúre. The sources advocate for an inclusive approach, free from discrimination based on origin or family situation, ensuring equal opportunities for all children.
In this context, those interviewed hope that authorities and social partners will intervene in a timely manner to safeguard the right to education and prevent school dropout among these vulnerable children. (César Félix)
