A trader from the village of Nacutuco was seen being forced into a vehicle whose make was not identified last Thursday, the 12th, in the same village, in Mucojo, Macomia district, Cabo Delgado province.
The men involved have not been identified and, two days later, both the family and the authorities still have no information about the trader’s whereabouts.
It is suspected that he may have been collaborating with terrorists, but there is no confirmation of this. Local residents describe him as a person of good character with no links to terrorist groups, contradicting the allegations. They also find it strange that the authorities were not informed beforehand or that there was no response after the case was reported to the military forces stationed in the area.
In Nacutuco, where there have been reports of young people joining terrorist groups, a suspected terrorist was captured last year by Rwandan forces after hiding in a house where his sister lived, according to a source who spoke anonymously to Mozanorte.
For local traders, the case raises concern, as the circumstances of the detention remain unclear. In Macomia district, several cases of disappearances involving traders and mobile phone agents have been recorded. The two most recent cases occurred in December and January in the Central and Nanga neighborhoods.
Meanwhile, the population is calling for help and for an end to kidnappings or illegal detentions, whether carried out by terrorists or by alleged members of the security forces. (Mozanorte)
