Three members of the same family died in the early hours of Monday following a landslide that destroyed their home in the Cariaco neighborhood, Chibuabuare area, in the city of Pemba, Cabo Delgado province.
The victims include a pregnant woman, her husband, and their young child. The incident occurred during the night while they were asleep, and they were caught off guard by the collapse caused by heavy rains recorded in the region.
Preliminary information indicates that the soil, heavily saturated by continuous rainfall, suddenly gave way, burying the house and causing the immediate death of the victims.
Two other children who were inside the house managed to survive. They were rescued and taken to Pemba Provincial Hospital, where they are receiving medical care.
Local authorities have already carried out an initial assessment of the damage and are providing support to the affected family. Meanwhile, they continue to warn communities living in high-risk areas to take precautionary measures, given the ongoing rains. (Mozanorte)
