The Provincial Health Directorate, accompanied by police authorities, allegedly threatened the traditional healer who removed a rat from the head of a woman who had been suffering for years from an undiagnosed illness. The woman had visited several hospitals across the country and even in neighboring Tanzania, but no one managed to solve her condition.
He is known as Shidanga and is considered by many to be a savior of the population in some districts of Cabo Delgado Province because of the work he carries out in those areas. However, the population expressed sadness over the arrival of a team from the provincial capital, Pemba.
According to our sources on the ground, the objective of the team was to collect his materials, find out where he obtained them, who authorized his work, and where he received his training. The authorities carried out their duties, but the population did not agree with the decision of the provincial authorities.
After the video circulated throughout almost the entire country on social media and television channels, the Ministry of Health in Cabo Delgado Province reportedly felt pressured and decided to look for the healer for further investigations. According to reports, he is able to cure both scientifically recognized illnesses and conditions believed to be caused by witchcraft.
With the rise of terrorism in Cabo Delgado Province, many young people and individuals of different ages have lost opportunities for development and have been prevented from achieving their dreams. The alleged persecution of Shidanga has become a widely discussed issue in Palma District and surrounding areas.
So far, there is no updated information regarding the case, and the population does not agree with the alleged threats or investigations carried out by the health authorities together with the PRM against the healer. He claims to have received health-related training from Cubans in Tanzania.
People are calling on the competent authorities to leave Mr. Shidanga in peace, describing him as the healer who helped a woman who had suffered for many years. They also question what the provincial government of Cabo Delgado plans to do for the population. According to some opinions, whenever a young person tries to improve their life and help the community, they end up being investigated or detained.
Many young people have already been killed by insurgents and, at times, even by our own defense and security forces without clear reasons, yet no conclusive investigations have been carried out so far. According to the population, those who could help insecure communities are the same people who face persecution.
According to public criticism, some authorities seem interested only in seeing suffering and bloodshed in Cabo Delgado Province while opposing people who seek to save and heal lives. (BP)
