The Faculty of Architecture and Physical Planning of Lúrio University, in partnership with the Higher School of Hospitality and Tourism of Inhambane at Eduardo Mondlane University and the Department of Economics, Management, Industrial Engineering and Tourism at the University of Aveiro, hosted a workshop this Wednesday, September 23, under the theme “Tourism, Risk Perception, and Mitigation Strategies.”
The event took place in the Main Hall of the Municipality of Mozambique Island and is part of an ongoing study on risk perception and mitigation strategies within Mozambique's tourism sector.
The initiative brought together representatives from the government, the private sector, academic institutions, and civil society for a participatory dialogue and reflection on the primary challenges facing the development of tourism on Mozambique Island.
During the workshop, participants were invited to analyze various risk factors affecting the tourism sector, as well as discuss mechanisms and strategies to reduce their impact and strengthen the response capacity of local stakeholders.
The discussions also aimed to identify collective strategies to enhance Mozambique Island's image as a safe, resilient, attractive, and sustainable destination, recognizing the vital role tourism plays in the region's economic and social development.
The event served as an important platform to bring together key sector stakeholders, fostering the exchange of experiences, knowledge, and proposals tailored to local realities.
It is expected that the insights gathered during the meeting will inform the ongoing study and support the definition of risk mitigation strategies, ultimately helping to rebuild visitor confidence and ensure sustainable tourism on Mozambique Island. (Fatima Abacar)
