Individuals believed to be insurgents launched a raid with no response from the armed forces on Monday night around 10:00 PM; however, there are no reports of fatalities.
According to local residents, the terrorists stole food and medicine, and abducted a number of people, though the exact count has not yet been disclosed.
Upon learning of the incident, Mozambican defence and security forces, along with partner forces, launched an operation to dismantle the group, which is believed to still be in the vicinity of the community.
Nonetheless, the insurgents' presence in Quelimane has once again heightened fears of a potential major attack on the town, given the area's close proximity to the district headquarters.
It is worth noting that about three weeks ago, several people were abducted in the Filipe Nyusi neighborhood by men believed to be insurgents, and the whereabouts of most of them remain unknown. (Mozanorte)
