FOOTBALL IS BACK IN MOCIMBOA DA PRAIA
In an exciting Recreativo
Distrital tournament in Mocímboa da Praia, located in the Cabo Delgado province
in northern Mozambique, the 2024 edition recently took place, the team Arsenal of
30 de Junho emerging as the champion.
The title was secured after
a brilliant play that led to their victory at the municipal field of the town.
As recognition of their achievement, the team was awarded a prize of 100,000
meticais for their first-place finish.
The second place went to
Barcelona of Nanduadua, another strong contender in the tournament. This team
lost three goals to two against the winner, Arsenal of 30 de Junho.
Despite the victory, the
Arsenal team faces significant challenges. Their training ground does not
provide the necessary conditions for competitive football, which hinders the
development of local young talents.
Additionally, the club
struggles with a lack of financial support, limiting their ability to compete
in more provincial and regional tournaments, and eventually in the Moçambola,
the largest football competition in Mozambique.
The coach and the club's
management have called for support from the community, businesses, and
institutions to invest in the youth and provide better training conditions.
“Our goal is not only to win
here but to elevate the talent recognized throughout the country,” said a team
representative.
The appeal for help extends
beyond the club. It is an opportunity to invest in the youth of Mocímboa da
Praia, nurturing local talents who have the potential to shine anywhere in the
country.
The district’s recreational
football championship mainly involved teams from the municipal area was
organized by the local Municipal Council with the support of several partners.
It was considered a unique moment for the young local population, as it came at
a time when the community is trying to rebuild itself, helping people to forget
the scars of terrorist attacks.
During the closing ceremony,
the representative of the Municipal Council President, Vicente Alfândega,
emphasized that the event was organized to revive the talents that local youth
possess in eleven-a-side football, and that this could serve as a platform for
other competitions to select good players.(António
