The New Year’s Eve in Mocímboa da Praia, in the province of Cabo Delgado, northern Mozambique, was marked by much joy and unity among friends and family.
Since December 31, 2024, the festive atmosphere had already taken over the town. For instance, my three friends and I decided we wouldn’t sleep that night, and everything was carefully planned to make the most of the New Year’s celebration.
Gathered at home, we spent the night listening to upbeat music, chatting, and laughing to ensure no one would fall asleep before the much-anticipated midnight.
When the clock struck midnight, we celebrated the arrival of 2025 with hugs and words of gratitude. The first day of the year began peacefully and special.
Soon after sunrise, each of us went back to our homes to shower and prepare for our reunion. By 8 a.m., we were together again, ready to celebrate the new year with a special lunch.
Our goal was simple but meaningful: to thank God for the arrival of another year and to enjoy the day in good company. During the afternoon, we went for a walk around the streets of Mocímboa da Praia, where the festive atmosphere was contagious. People were joyfully strolling, singing celebratory songs, and toasting to the new chapter that was beginning.
The positive energy that took over Mocímboa da Praia reflects
the community spirit and the hope everyone carries into 2025. A New Year that
