This concerns RG Industry,
also known as Farinal, which is responsible for the production of cooking oil,
soap bars, plastic chairs, among other products. The company has been operating
and polluting the environment for over 10 years in the city of Nacala-Porto.
The issue at hand is the
foul odor polluting the environment, as well as the smoke from the chimney,
which is located close to neighboring residences. The factory's furnace has
been using cashew nut shells processed at CN Caju, which is also harmful to
health, according to local residents.
In this context, the
Triângulo neighborhood, the most populous in the city, and the Pousada area are
victims of this problem, which has been keeping the residents awake at night.
"We are suffering
because of this factory. We have tried to complain, but nothing changes. When
they process the soap, it smells terrible, it’s unbearable to even eat. When
they put wood in the furnace, they use cashew shells from the Caju factory. The
smoke harms us, the children are coughing a lot, and I myself have been feeling
unwell," said mrs. Fátima Mussage Selemane, a resident of the Triângulo neighborhood
in the Pousada area.
On the same route, we met Mr. Denilson Mazuze, a customs officer who lives in the Pousada, in the Customs condominium. He said: "It’s a very complicated issue to explain. Even we, who live in the Customs area, are suffering here in our condominium, as we are neighbors to the factory. We have tried to address the issue, but without success. It seems like someone is behind this. We are tired because it affects our health and the health of our children. The smoke from this factory reaches our homes."
We attempted to speak with
the factory’s responsible person, but were told by the security staff at the
entrance that it was not possible to access the factory’s interior, as they had
no information regarding the press’s presence.
According to information we
have, RG Industry, also known as Farinal, is not only accused of polluting the
environment but also of providing poor working conditions for its employees.
They do not have Personal
Protective Equipment (PPE), especially those working in the furnace area Puler. (Gabriel Cassimo)
