Cabo Delgado: residents of Mazeze do not want the head of the post and prefer to belong to Mecúfi rather than Chiúre

The population of the Mazeze administrative post, located in the Chiúre district of Cabo Delgado, northern Mozambique, is requesting the removal of the head of the post for abandoning the region.

The head of the Mazeze administrative post left the area last year when the post was attacked by terrorists, leaving the population to fend for itself.

According to residents interviewed by Mozanorte, they would rather the post belonged to the Mecufi district, as they feel they gain nothing from being under Chiúre.

"We prefer to take orders from Mecufi, because it is our home. The head of the post left a long time ago, and we don’t know how she reports from here because even the local leaders are not here," said Maurício João, a local resident.

"Other posts receive support, but here we get nothing, and no one comes to this post. We were affected by Cyclone Chido, but no one came to check our situation, and we have asked the village heads, but they haven’t given us any answers," complained Mariazinha Samuel.

No basic services are functioning at this post, leaving the population without essential services.
