The 25 houses built for young people and inaugurated last year in the Chipile neighborhood, in the Lago district municipality, remain uninhabited, and the reasons for this remain unclear. This are things from Niassa province, northern of Mozambique.
The residences, designated as youth houses, were built by the housing development fund and inaugurated by the former Minister of Public Works and Housing, Carlos Mesquita, in November of last year. At the time, it was stated that all the houses had already been occupied, meaning there were people to move in and contracts were being signed. However, three months later, the houses remain uninhabited. Even as recently as last week, when a Mozanorte report visited the site, only one house showed signs of being lived in, while the others were overrun by grass.
The District Planning and Infrastructure Service in the Lago district claims to have no information regarding the current status of the houses, as the project is under the responsibility of the housing development fund, Lichinga delegation. What they know is that last year, the signing of contracts was in progress, but since then, no further information has been provided.
"From the information we have, some interested parties have already signed their contracts. Given that the houses are under the management of the housing fund, Niassa delegation, we have very little information. At this moment, we do not have any new information, except for the last update, which stated that some of the residents had already signed their contracts," explained Elves Romão, the district director of Planning and Infrastructure in Lago.
It is important to note that this is not the first case of its
kind. In 2014, houses were also built for young people in the city of Lichinga
by the housing development fund, and many of these houses remain uninhabited to
this day. (Davide Muianga)
