Services resumed at the Quixaxe Administrative Post

Following the intervention of the police forces in the Mogincual district, Nampula province, northern Mozambique, things appear to be improving at the Quixaxe Administrative Post.

Quixaxe, an administrative post in the Mogincual district, was affected by violent protests three months ago.

During this period, the police forces were unable to control the situation, which led to the abandonment of the post, leaving it under the control of the protesters.

The administrator of the Mogincual district was unable to leave the area for nearly two months, as the main access road to the district also leads to Monapo and the city of Nampula.

To ensure his safety, an escort had to be deployed to accompany him.

In the district’s headquarters village, authorities managed to restore order, and the services of various institutions resumed functioning normally.

The police forces regained control of Quixaxe a week ago, and since then, the situation has been under control, with all institutions fully operational.

Currently, police are on the ground sensitizing the population to abandon violent protests.

After the arrival of the police forces, many people fled to the machambas (fields) and other places they deemed safe, following rumors that those who had vandalized public and private property would be detained. (BP)
