Power outage at the Ituculo administrative post

Ituculo is an administrative post in the Monapo district, Nampula province, northern Mozambique, located 15 km from the district’s main town.

It is an area that suffered damage due to Cyclone Jude, which occurred in March 2025.

Until now, there have been significant communication difficulties between the district’s main town and the Ituculo administrative post. The electricity, which was interrupted by Cyclone Jude, has still not been restored, as many power poles were knocked down.

Recently, efforts to restore electricity have been underway, but the process is taking longer than expected due to a shortage of technicians, as many are deployed in other parts of the province to assist their colleagues in more affected areas.

Residents of the post are facing difficulties due to the lack of lighting and are requesting the district to take action to resolve this situation.

Mozambique Electricity (EDM) issued a statement saying it is working to restore power in all areas, but noted that this would be possible only if access conditions allow it.

It was also explained that ten out of the 19 districts in Nampula and Zambezia had power restored after the damage caused by Cyclone Jude. (BP)
