The opening of the alternative
road on the Monapo River, in Nampula Province, has brought an end to the
private boat business that had been operating there since the bridge collapsed
due to Cyclone Jude.
The transporters of these
vessels on the Monapo River are now out of business in this location. For them,
it's unbelievable. It was a significant source of income for their livelihoods.
Even with their work
concluded, they still remain here, uncertain about the future. They were still
at the site until the late afternoon of this Tuesday.
This Tuesday (15th) marked
two days since the boats were removed from the water, and all vehicles with
their passengers have been using the detour.
At the time of the visit,
the press was on-site doing their work.
Now, boats are no longer
needed to reach the other side or to transport cargo.
The young people who worked
on the stairs, on the boats, and in the canoes cannot believe they have lost
their jobs.
The visit was already taking
place at the site where the official inauguration was held, led by the governor
and some representatives of ANE from Nampula Province.
They are visiting the
locations where the population suffered for two months.
After the governor's
departure, the police and military forces, who had been present daily, also bid
farewell to the population. (BP)
