Mugincual District in
Nampula Province
demonstrated its commitment to environmental preservation by observing World Oceans Day on June 8, 2025. The
district held a series of events to highlight the importance of ocean
conservation.
From 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM, Macupe Beach was the focal point of the celebrations, presided
over by District Administrator João Bento
Zampula. The ceremony featured a beach
clean-up and a public rally. During the rally, Administrator Zampula
urged residents to refrain from dumping solid waste into the sea or along the
coastline, to avoid open defecation, and to stop using harmful fishing
practices.
"Harmful fishing practices" specifically
refer to the use of mosquito nets and other unauthorized fishing gear, which
are prohibited by competent authorities. The Administrator actively
participated in the clean-up alongside community members and maritime authorities.
Beach inspectors were also present, contributing to
the clean-up efforts and conducting a lecture on the general importance of the
ocean. The event was well-received by the local population.
During the June 8 ceremony in Mugincual, district
authorities assured the community that they would continue to honor and
celebrate World Oceans Day annually. BP
