Coastal villagers report violent actions by Navy soldiers in the Mucojo and Quiterajo areas of Cabo Delgado.

Between July 5th and 7th, the bodies of several fishermen were found in Pangane and other northern coastal communities of Macomia district, Cabo Delgado province. Survivors and local residents blame Mozambican military forces for summary executions.

Survivors, currently receiving medical care in hospitals in Macomia and Pemba, reported that they were approached by a vessel flying the Mozambican flag. According to their testimony, the soldiers gave no explanation they simply ordered the fishermen to raise their hands before opening fire.

Tensions have been rising in Mucojo, especially following the recent return of displaced families to the area.

Residents also claim that in recent days, other fishermen from the communities of Messano, Olumboa, and Crimize located along the southern coastline of Mucojo have been killed by Navy personnel.
