Families returning to the villages of
Milamba and Pequeué in Macomia were forced to leave following threats from Navy
soldiers.
Mozambican Navy forces recently deployed to
the coastal area of Quiterajo, in Macomia district, Cabo Delgado, issued an
ultimatum demanding that fishermen and other civilians leave the region. The
military presence in the area was reported at least until July 8th.
Some families who had begun returning to
their original villages, such as Milamba and Pequeué, were met with orders from
the soldiers to immediately evacuate.
In response to the ultimatum and driven by
fear many residents chose to relocate once again, this time back to the Mucojo
area and to the town of Macomia. Since July 5th, the Mozambican Navy has been
accused of killing of civilian. Mozanorte
