Mozambican Navy issues ultimatum to vacate Quiterajo area

 

Families returning to the villages of Milamba and Pequeué in Macomia were forced to leave following threats from Navy soldiers.

Mozambican Navy forces recently deployed to the coastal area of Quiterajo, in Macomia district, Cabo Delgado, issued an ultimatum demanding that fishermen and other civilians leave the region. The military presence in the area was reported at least until July 8th.

Some families who had begun returning to their original villages, such as Milamba and Pequeué, were met with orders from the soldiers to immediately evacuate.

In response to the ultimatum and driven by fear many residents chose to relocate once again, this time back to the Mucojo area and to the town of Macomia. Since July 5th, the Mozambican Navy has been accused of killing of civilian. Mozanorte
