The request was made during a session of the Metangula Municipal Assembly, where community leaders were invited to participate. Among the several concerns presented to municipal representatives were the shortage of water in the neighborhoods, speeding, and noise pollution caused by motorcyclists in Chuanga, a tourist area of Metangula.
Due to the increasing number of motorcyclists causing disorder in the three neighborhoods of Chuanga, in the northern part of the municipality, the secretaries of Chigoma and Macie are calling for stricter enforcement by the municipal police.
“Now that the municipality has more police officers, we ask them to visit the Chuanga neighborhoods at any time to see what is happening. We are suffering, especially on weekends we can’t sleep because of the noise from the motorcycles. The young people behave irresponsibly because they know the police never come here, and they are locals from the town center,” explained the secretaries of Chigoma and Macie neighborhoods.
In addition to noise pollution, the community leaders also raised concerns about excessive speeding by motorcyclists. They are requesting authorization to install speed bumps as a way to protect the lives of children. (David Muianga)
