The Nampula Provincial Office for Combating Corruption registered 197 criminal cases related to corruption between January and November 2025, with the highest incidence in passive corruption, embezzlement, and abuse of office. Of these, 123 cases have already been concluded, reported the senior official of the Office, Maria Emília Ferrão, on Tuesday (9), during the celebrations of International Anti-Corruption Day.
During the period under review, 22 arrests were made for corrupt practices. The source highlighted the importance of youth involvement in the fight against corruption, echoing this year’s theme, which calls on young people not to remain silent in the face of corrupt acts.
According to the director, prevention must be a constant practice across all sectors, as it begins with the behavior of each individual each public servant who must act with ethics, responsibility, and diligence in managing State resources.
“Transparency cannot be merely declared; it must be lived daily,” she stressed.
The Secretary of State in Nampula, Plácido Pereira, reinforced that corruption is not limited to the diversion of resources; it undermines the country’s future, perpetuates inequality, and increases poverty.
