SERNIC neutralizes 21 individuals involved with “surruma” in Niassa

The National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) in Niassa Province neutralized 21 citizens between January and December of the current year, suspected of being involved in the production, trafficking, and consumption of Cannabis sativa, commonly known as surruma.

Compared to the same period last year, there was a reduction in the quantity of drugs seized, since 89 kilograms were confiscated in 2024. However, the number of arrests increased, rising from 19 to 21 individuals this year.

The information was made public this Monday by the SERNIC spokesperson in Niassa, Moisés Matangue, who identified the districts of Lichinga, Cuamba, Ngauma, Mecanhelas, Mecula, and Lago as the main drug circulation points in the province.

According to the official, surruma was the only drug seized throughout this year in Niassa, but the authorities remain on high alert to prevent the entry and spread of other types of illicit substances in the region. (Mozanorte)
