ECONOMIC GROWTH AMID CHRONIC PROBLEMS IN NIASSA

In the face of challenges affecting the population of Niassa such as poor road access and lack of water the provincial government presented a budget execution report highlighting significant economic growth in 2025.

The province of Niassa recorded a total output of more than 53 billion meticais, representing growth of around 103% of the planned target. The data were made public this Friday (06) during the 1st Session of the Provincial Executive Council in the city of Lichinga.

The Provincial Executive Council (PEC) stated that it achieved 98.4% execution of its 2025 target, a performance considered acceptable. However, questions remain regarding the effectiveness of these results in addressing the chronic problems affecting the population, such as the lack of basic infrastructure.

For 2026, the PEC approved a Plan and Budget valued at 834.8 million meticais, aimed at ensuring current operations and investments of the Decentralized Governance Bodies in the province. It remains to be seen whether these investments will be sufficient to bridge existing gaps and improve the quality of life of Niassa’s residents. (Jaime Paculeque)
