The polio vaccination campaign has already started in Niassa Province, and the district of Chimbunila plans to immunize about 31,688 children aged between zero and 59 months in an effort aimed at strengthening the prevention of poliomyelitis and protecting public health.

The information was provided by the District Director of Health, Women and Social Action of Chimbunila, Albino João José, during the official launch of the campaign held last Wednesday in the district.

According to the official, the campaign seeks to strengthen the immunity of children under five years of age, reducing the risk of the spread of polio, a disease that can cause permanent paralysis.

Meanwhile, Sadate, representative of the Provincial Health Services Directorate, explained that the initiative comes at a time when several countries have once again recorded cases related to the disease, a situation that has led health authorities to reinforce preventive measures in areas considered to be at higher risk.

According to the source, in Niassa Province the campaign covers all districts bordering other countries, with the aim of preventing the entry and spread of polio within the national territory.

At the moment, vaccination teams are mobilized in different communities, carrying out door-to-door activities as well as operating in places with large population concentrations, such as markets, schools and health facilities, to ensure that no eligible child is left without receiving the vaccine.
