The rehabilitation process of the Mueda–Oasse–Sunate road (R698 and N380), in Cabo Delgado, has taken another step forward with the opening session of the Environmental Pre-Feasibility and Scoping Study (EPDA) public consultation process, held on Thursday and led by the Administrator of Mueda District, Atanásio Amba.
The meeting brought together representatives from the District Government, the Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA), community leaders, and local residents to discuss the potential impacts and benefits of the project.
The planned rehabilitation aims to improve the movement of people and goods, strengthen trade links between Mozambique and Tanzania, and boost the local economy through the modernization of the transport network connected to National Road Number One (EN1).
During the meeting, community members raised concerns regarding houses built along the roadside, employment opportunities for local youth, and the need for social infrastructure in the affected communities.
In response, the National Roads Administration assured that affected residents would be compensated and that local labor would be prioritized during the implementation of the project. The institution also announced studies to assess the construction of schools and health facilities within the project’s area of influence as part of its social responsibility initiatives.
Speaking at the event, Atanásio Amba called for the fulfillment of promises made to local communities and stressed the importance of valuing local labor. He also emphasized the need for proper planning of pipeline and fiber optic infrastructure in order to avoid future damage to the rehabilitated road. (Mozanorte)
