Citizens call for greater discipline, respect and community engagement from the force
Residents of Lichinga are calling on newly recruited Municipal Police officers to carry out their duties responsibly and to act with respect, ethics and close engagement with the community.
A total of 40 new Municipal Police officers were graduated on Saturday during a ceremony led by Lichinga Municipal Council President Luís Jumo, who called for discipline and commitment to serving citizens.
For many residents, the arrival of the 40 new officers brings hope for greater order in markets, improved enforcement and increased security in neighbourhoods.
However, they also issued a warning: “We want officers who serve the people, not those who mistreat them. We want respect and dialogue.”
During the closing ceremony of the 4th Municipal Police Training Course, Luís Jumo urged the graduates to uphold discipline, professional ethics, respect for human rights and close engagement with communities.
“Your mission is to serve citizens. Be examples of civic responsibility, exercise authority with humanity, and be guardians of public property,” the mayor stressed.
The training equipped the 40 officers with skills in:Public order; Traffic management; Market inspections; Environmental protection; and Citizen services.
With the reinforcement of its personnel, the municipality expects to increase the Municipal Police’s capacity to respond to the growing needs of the city. (Ermelinda João)
