In
the district of Quissanga, in the province of Cabo Delgado, northern
Mozambique, specifically in the administrative post of Bilibiza, the situation
has been difficult recently due to the lack of electricity, which has lasted
for a month.
This
power outage has repercussions not only on essential health services but also
on communication, as mobile networks such as Movitel and Vodacom are not functioning
properly in the region.
On
January 20, 2025, health workers in the administrative post of Bilibiza went on
strike due to the non-payment of their 13th salary.
According
to reports from a local resident, Alaissa, many patients did not receive the
necessary treatment because the nurses did not open the Health Unit (US) at
that post.
This
strike in the health sector has directly affected the population, which relies
on the only medical services available in the region.
Additionally,
security at the site is being ensured by the defense and security forces, which
remain in the post to maintain order. According to Alaissa, the local
population has been cooperating well with the authorities, contributing to a
good understanding between the residents and the security forces.
In
the fields, the population continues to engage in agricultural activities,
despite the challenges posed by the lack of rainfall. Mr. Abdul, one of the
local leaders, stated that there are no major concerns about security, as there
is good collaboration between citizens and the authorities.
However,
he lamented the scarcity of rain, which has hindered the growth and development
of crops in the machambas (farmlands), negatively impacting production and the
livelihoods of families. (Seven Mussa)
