Around
138 young people participated in a training session for registrars to
distribute mosquito nets in Mecúfi, in the south of Cabo Delgado, northern
Mozambique.
The
training for the registrars began on January 20th and 21st, with the goal of
supporting families affected by Cyclone CHIDO, which devastated the district of
Mecúfi on December 15th, 2024. The mosquito net distribution campaign is
scheduled to begin on January 30th, 2025.
During
the opening ceremony, Albertino Oreste Manambao, the permanent secretary of the
district of Mecúfi, called on the trainees to ensure that the registration
process is transparent. "The registration process must be clear and fair,
without any political party distinction. This is not about benefiting members
of party X or Y, but about helping everyone. This program is national, and it
was supposed to start in April, but due to the current situation, we have been
prioritized to save lives and fight malaria," said Manambao.
This
initiative is part of an ongoing effort to protect local communities from
malaria, especially after the damage caused by the cyclone, which further
exacerbated the vulnerability of the affected populations. (Libério Dinis)
