The population of Quissanga is expressing concern over the severe consequences for the agricultural sector, one of the region's main activities. In addition to the lack of rain, complaints also extend to the insufficient distribution of agricultural inputs.

This situation highlights the failure of the agricultural sector in the current 2024/2025 season, especially due to the lack of agricultural inputs for farmers in the district.

According to resident Manuel, this agricultural season has been marked by a lack of distribution of agricultural products, both from the government and its partners. He points out that many farmers returned to their areas of origin without seeds, further compromising the agricultural cycle.

Moreover, the lack of services in the district also contributes to the problem. Manuel adds that the relevant authorities and agricultural technicians have not yet returned, which may be one of the reasons for the lack of assistance to the farmers.

Since the attack by criminals in May 2023, agricultural technicians and the sector's leadership have been based in the city of Pemba, making it difficult to provide adequate support to agricultural activities in Quissanga.

However, the lack of rain is the greatest concern for farmers. “It doesn’t rain in Quissanga, and this has taken away the hope of those who have already planted or those who want to plant. Until now, the lack of rain in the district is hindering the proper growth of certain crops,” laments Mr. Segundo Anly, a resident of the Tandanhangue village.

According to this source, to obtain agricultural inputs, people must travel to Pemba or to other villages like Nacoba and 19 de Outubro, where there is also a lack of supplies.

Despite all these challenges, the farmers say that activities are progressing, with no reports of pests, but the lack of rain remains a harsh reality. "This year we were expecting a large production of rice, maize, and sesame, but with the lack of rain, everything is difficult," concludes a local farmer. (Seven Mussa)
