Puhani
Iahaia, a 67-year-old woman, lives with her 9-year-old granddaughter in the
Sassalane neighborhood, in Mecúfi, a district located south of Cabo Delgado,
northern Mozambique.
According
to Puhani, around 2 AM this Tuesday, she noticed that her hut was on fire.
The
hut had been built by her grandchildren after her main house was destroyed by cyclone
Chido, which hit the district in December of the previous year.
Puhani
explained that she noticed a strong light and, upon checking, saw that the house
was burning. She screamed for help, and the neighbors quickly responded to her
call.
The
elderly woman stated that although people arrived promptly to assist her, the
fire destroyed her food, clothes, and some household utensils that had been
salvaged after the cyclone.
To
date, Puhani is unaware of the identity of the individuals responsible for
attempting to set her house on fire. (Libério
