Following a supposed
guidance from a candidate in the last elections, who suggested the election of
new administrators, heads of posts, secretaries, and other positions, the
Quinga administrative post, in the Liúpo district, Nampula province, northern
Mozambique, elected a traditional leader (régulo) to lead the area.
He is well-known throughout
the region and has already started working in the localities and neighborhoods,
explaining how the new governance will work. The population has welcomed him
and states that he is very serious about his work.
The new régulo has issued a
warning to those who do not wish to obey his laws, saying that they must leave
the area and move to another region.
The district government has
already recognized him as the new régulo of Quinga, but it is unclear whether
he will be allowed to remain in the position. However, he is listened to and
has legitimacy with the population.
He has set up a sentinel at
the entrance of Quinga to provide information and monitor the arrival of
strangers without his knowledge. (BP)
