The road linking the
Maniamba Administrative Post to the headquarters of the Lago District, Niassa
province in northern of Mozambique, has been in poor condition since 2021, with
asphalt being replaced by gravel over a 30-kilometer stretch, making it
difficult for vehicles to pass. Recently, the government has given the green
light for the rehabilitation of half of this stretch.
After four years of
difficulties for motorists, the government of the Lake District, through the
District Service of Planning and Infrastructure, revealed to Moznorte’s
reporters that, of the 30 kilometers of the road, 15 kilometers are set to be
paved, starting from the Maniamba Administrative Post. The remaining kilometers
will only undergo pothole filling.
"There is an expected
intervention on the Metangula-Maniamba road, with 15 kilometers to be paved,
and the other kilometers, which provide access to the town of Metangula, will
have potholes filled," explained Elves Romão, director of the District
Service of Planning and Infrastructure in the Lake District.
Romão assured that the
tender has already been launched at the central level.
At the moment, the
interested companies are already visiting the section to be intervened upon,
and will later move on to other sections with the goal of completing the work.
As for the forecasted start
date of the work, Elves Romão stated that it is still too early to provide
specific dates. (Davide Muianga)
