The
health sector in the Lago district, in the northern province of Niassa,
Mozambique, is preparing an important malaria prevention campaign, which will
begin on January 24th.
The
initiative aims to protect children aged 3 to 59 months, covering all health
posts and localities in the district.
According
to Resofania Formiga, a technician from the District Health, Women, and Social
Action Service, the campaign will focus on administering pills to prevent
malaria in children under 5 years old. "The campaign aims to prevent
malaria in children from 3 to 59 months of age and will be carried out through
the administration of pills," explained Formiga.
The
campaign will be carried out with the support of 250 activists and health
technicians, who will visit the neighborhoods of the district's health posts
and localities, ensuring that all children in the defined age group are
reached.
This
malaria prevention effort will take place across all districts in Niassa
province and is funded by health sector partners, with ADPP (Assistance for the
Development of People in Africa) being one of the main collaborators in
implementing the campaign.
With
malaria being one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in the
region, the campaign aims to reduce the incidence of the disease among
children, especially during the high-risk period.
Raising
awareness and engaging local communities are key to the success of the
campaign, which is expected to have a positive impact on public health in
Niassa province. (Davide Muianga)
