According to the information
in our possession, the wave of criminality and lynchings in that district is on
the rise, which has led people to take justice into their own hands.
The Administrator of
Mandimba District, Elídio Benjamin Xavier, acknowledges that there have been
cases of vigilante justice in some communities in recent days.
Elídio Benjamin made these
statements recently after the district reported two cases of lynching of
citizens accused of stealing motorcycles.
Given this situation, he
expressed concern about these two cases, highlighting that the police were only
called to remove the victims' bodies.
"What has been
happening recently is that thieves who rob homes, streets, and roads, stealing
goods from the population, are being lynched instead of waiting for the police
to arrive. I recently received a report of a lynching in the Nkuina community.
A thief was captured with a motorcycle, but they didn't call the police at the
time; they chose to kill him, and up until now, the police have been unable to
identify the motorcycle or its owner. A similar scenario happened last week
when a group of criminals broke into a house and stole a motorcycle. The angry
mob captured and killed the thief, taking justice into their own hands,"
Xavier explained.
The leader urges the
population not to take justice into their own hands, as there is no law in the
country that authorizes killing or lynching someone. (Ma Mataca)
