Road traffic has been improved on National Road 380, in the
stretch from Macomia to the Messalo River, in central Cabo Delgado, northern of
Mozambique, which was interrupted on February 6 due to the intensity of the
rains that resulted in the destruction of several culverts.
In fact, a six-hole aqueduct downstream of the Napacala
River at km 0+800 had serious issues.
The work led by the National Roads Administration involved
the removal of the soil and damaged culverts, provision of crushed stone,
gravel, sand, and cement, preparation of the base using crushed stone and
gravel for the reinstallation of the culverts, as well as the installation and
securing of the culverts with concrete and applying fill material and a base
for the roadway surface, resulting in the restoration of traffic flow.
However, according to reports from "Mozanorte,"
work is still underway to protect the embankments with mortar stone, place and
build walls, which will allow for the return of smooth road traffic flow.
It appears that despite this intervention, residents report
that if vehicles continue to pass with heavy loads while it rains, the area
will experience the same problems again. (Mozanorte)
