Six girls aged 7 to 10 years old were sexually
abused by a 38-year-old man known as Uncle Chupa-Chupa in the Ontupaia
neighborhood of the Nacala-Porto district in Nampula earlier this month.
The
individual lured his victims with sweets and 2 metical coins, taking the minors
to an abandoned house while threatening them with blunt instruments and
engaging in sexual acts with them. The mothers of the minors are demanding
justice, and if not, the residents of Ontupaia promise to take matters into
their own hands.
"My
daughter was assaulted by an older man who is, by the way, a community leader.
It is regrettable for the act he committed. I ask that justice be served, and
that his prison sentence ranges from 20 to 30 years. Even though he is in jail,
we are still not satisfied," said the mother of one of the minors
assaulted by the infamous Uncle Chupa-Chupa.
Ussene Assane, a neighbor of the minors, also
expressed her concerns about the situation: "As a parent who also has a
daughter, it is frightening. A man who threatens children with machetes and
knives to torment our daughters and engage in relations with them? That is not
a father; he is a murderer. That is why he is in jail; at least this way he
learns. If there is justice in this country, let it be served; if not, we can
take justice into our own hands."
When
contacted, the District Command of Nacala, through spokesperson Hermenegilda
Jacob, promised to provide statements to the press in due course. It is
important to note that this is not the first case of sexual assault in the
Nacala district; last year, a case of minor sexual assault was also reported in
the Triângulo neighborhood surrounding the Nacala district. (Cassimo Gabriel)
