A social activist identified as Anli Saide Muicuna has been
detained since Sunday, April 20th, at the district command of the PRM (Police
of the Republic of Mozambique) in Mocímboa da Praia, northern Cabo Delgado.
Family sources told other activists in Pemba that Anli Saide
Muicuna was illegally captured at the Oasse checkpoint by officers stationed
there. Before his detention, all his belongings were searched while he was
traveling, but Mozanorte has not determined the origin or destination of his
trip.
According to explanations, the officers suspect that the
activist has links with the terrorist groups operating in Cabo Delgado, one of
the main accusations that authorities use to intimidate all those who have
access to information, including information circulating on social media about
the terrorist attacks in Cabo Delgado.
But who is Anli Saide Muicuna?
Information that Mozanorte has access to indicates that he
is a young Mozambican national, Muslim, social activist, and small trader.
Approximately 30 years old, a father and husband, he originates from the
Macomia district, Quiterajo administrative post, but lived extensively in the
Mocímboa da Praia district, almost his entire childhood.
Like many other local residents, he witnessed the rise of
terrorism in the region, and therefore has helped many investigators,
journalists, researchers, and other interested parties to better understand the
complexities of terrorism in Cabo Delgado.
The social justice activist has worked several times with humanitarian organizations from Pemba and abroad, as well as local authorities. (News in update)
