Hope in Mueda: Young People turn kits into dreams for the Future

Last Friday felt different for over 360 young people in Mueda district. Instead of their usual routines, many walked with quiet smiles and hopeful eyes to the event where their dreams began to take shape the distribution ceremony for self-employment kits in electricity, carpentry, and hairdressing.

These youths, trained between 2023 and 2024 with support from ActionAid, in partnership with the Provincial Directorate of Industry and Commerce and funding from USAID, received more than just tools. They received a tangible opportunity to change their lives. For many, this moment marked the start of their first entrepreneurial journey.

Maria Cardoso, representative of the Cabo Delgado Directorate of Industry and Commerce, acknowledged the program's value. “These kits are seeds of transformation. We are investing in youth and the stability of our communities,” she said.

Julian Ciminha from ActionAid reminded attendees that the goal goes beyond handing out materials it's about fostering independence. “You have the chance to create jobs, not just for yourselves but for others too. Don’t sell the kits use them to build something that lasts,” he urged.

The District Administrator of Mueda, Patrício Mavile, promised to personally monitor their progress. “We want results. We will stand beside every young person who wants to transform their life with dignity and honest work.”

“I waited a long time for this day. Now I can start making furniture and maybe open my own small workshop.” Shared one young boy With bright eyes, one beneficiary, recently trained in carpentry

Altogether, between 2023 and 2024, around 760 young people were trained in fields such as electricity, carpentry, hairdressing, hospitality, and entrepreneurship. From that day, the first 360 begin a new journey. A journey of dignity, inclusion, and hope. MOZANORTE
