Community sources
indicate that the operation involved forces deployed from Montepuez, Mueda, and
the neighboring Niassa province. The troops, already possessing intelligence
about the insurgents' presence, set up an ambush during lunchtime, surprising
the attackers in broad daylight. At the scene, government forces seized an 82mm mortar,
abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.
"This time, our
forces caught them well. They already knew where they were hidden, prepared
everything, and attacked at the right moment," reported a local resident
who requested anonymity for security reasons. According to the same source,
only a small group of insurgents managed to escape, with fewer than five
believed to have survived the offensive.
"If it were
always like this, it would be good. In recent days, it seemed like they were
coddling those guys," commented another resident, emphasizing the
importance of maintaining regular and forceful actions against the insurgents. AA
