Before you go to Lago know that the district records 447 HIV cases in 11 Months

From January to November, the Lake district recorded 447 new HIV infections, including 19 children. Overall, the district has a cumulative total of 3,356 HIV/AIDS cases, of which 182 are children. According to Edgar Sinoia, the district-level coordinator for the HIV response program, all individuals are receiving antiretroviral treatment in almost all health facilities across the district.

“We can say that the HIV/AIDS situation in the district is under control. Cases are decreasing; the 447 recorded this year are fewer compared to last year. Everyone is on antiretroviral treatment,” he explained.

The information was made public as part of the World AIDS Day celebrations, which took place last Monday, by Edgar Sinoia, who is responsible for the HIV response program within the Lake District’s Women’s Health and Social Action Services.

Edgar further explained that there is currently increased adherence to voluntary testing, with women representing the majority of those tested. This improvement is attributed to a new testing method the Oral Quick or saliva test.

Edgar urges citizens to engage in healthy sexual behavior, keeping their future in mind, especially the youth. For adolescents who have not yet begun sexual activity, Edgar Sinoia appeals to them to delay sex until a later stage. (Davide Muianga in Lago)
