The Macomia District Service for Economic Activities (SDAE) in Cab9 Delgado has begun distributing agricultural seeds to the local population as part of the 2025–2026 agricultural season, with the aim of boosting production and ensuring food security in the district’s rural communities.
The distributed seeds include maize, cowpeas and sesame, crops considered essential for the subsistence of farming families in the region. The initiative covers refugees from the administrative posts of Chai, Quiterajo and Mucojo, as well as returnees from Macomia town.
According to sector officials, despite the challenges facing the region, the Mozambican government acknowledges the current situation and maintains that agricultural production cannot come to a halt. However, the sector highlights the shortage of farming tools as one of the main constraints, particularly the lack of hoes and other essential agricultural equipment.
The seed distribution is intended as a support measure for affected communities, aiming to stimulate local production and reduce dependence on external aid.
Meanwhile, in the district of Macomia, the official launch of broadcasts of Nacedje Community Radio and Television is scheduled for 15 January, an event regarded as an important milestone for information dissemination, education and community mobilization. (Sele Man)
