The trial of the so-called G95 case began this Monday, February 10, in Mecanhelas, Niassa Province. The case concerns alleged irregular recruitment of public employees in the education sector. The events date back to 2021, when several workers hired illegally between 2018 and 2020 were identified in the district.
Among the defendants are the former district administrator, as well as the director and the head of human resources of the District Service of Education, Youth and Technology at the time of the alleged offenses. The Public Prosecutor’s Office accuses them of being responsible for the signing of the contracts in question.
The case involves charges of embezzlement and abuse of office. According to the prosecution, the Mozambican State suffered losses exceeding 50 million meticais due to undue payments made to alleged teachers.
The hearing was adjourned and is scheduled to resume on March 10, when several witnesses are expected to testify, including the former District Permanent Secretary. (Jaime Paculeque)
