Employees in Quissanga continue to work under precarious conditions due to the lack of adequate infrastructure. In fact, the few structures that remain are in ruins, a situation that hampers service delivery and lowers staff morale, making it difficult for them to fully perform their duties.
Since 2024, when the district was affected by terrorist attacks, many public infrastructures have been destroyed.
At present, some employees who had been working in the city of Pemba have returned to Quissanga. According to reports, they were compelled by the district government, under threats, to return despite the challenging working conditions.
“There is still no forecast for the start of new construction projects or rehabilitation works,” said an employee of the District Infrastructure Service in Quissanga.
It should be noted that the main district leaders, including directors of essential public services, are based in Quissanga. However, they are frequently forced to travel to Pemba not only for rest but also to find ways to sustain their activities due to the lack of decent working conditions. (Sifar Artur)
