Opinion Cabo Delgado: Trying to understand the corruption game that society needs to comprehend

It is a fact that involves a provincial director of an important sector to the economy of Cabo Delgado, but society is not really concerned, and on the other hand, they do not have the knowledge to understand what they should.

Last week, there was a complaint from public servants and state agents to the Provincial Office for Combating Corruption in Cabo Delgado, claiming that the Provincial Director of Agriculture and Fisheries is involved in a scheme of embezzling funds, an alleged action with his closest colleagues. 14 million meticals are at stake.

However, the same director was later appointed the following week by the governor of Cabo Delgado to be part of the new government he formed. Practically, Valige Tauabo did a sort of copy and paste of the members who worked with him during the previous term. It is unknown whether there was an agreement made during the campaign, perhaps to materialize this pact.

Looking at the Director of Agriculture and Fisheries, it is clear that in the 100-day plan, the agriculture and fisheries sector is one of the key areas with major actions to be implemented. It is the same sector of the director who is being accused of embezzling funds. Among the actions to be developed in these 100 days are the distribution of seeds, water pumps, as well as fishing supplies such as motors, fishing gear, and boats.

Now, we can say that the governor does not know whether his colleague embezzled funds because he is competent with the government’s actions or if he knows but is unaware of the extent of the alleged embezzlement, or maybe he knows and does not want to know, or perhaps the whistleblowing employees are lying and trying to tarnish his boss’s image.

And if he maintains his position, will he not demote them or transfer them to the districts as a form of revenge? So, how will things turn out in the coming days? Because the prosecutor's investigation could take many days to uncover the truth. What now? (AA in opinion)
