Drought compromises agricultural crops in Mueda

This raises concerns about hunger

Mueda, Cabo Delgado – The drought that affected the region between January and February this year has compromised around one thousand hectares of agricultural crops, raising concerns about food security for the first cycle of the 2024/2025 agricultural campaign.

The information was disclosed by the Director of the District Service of Economic Activities, Manuel Dos Santos Matedo, who pointed out that the lack of rainfall impacted all administrative posts in the district, with effects classified as small to medium scale.

This alarming situation highlights the vulnerability of agricultural communities in the region, which heavily rely on climatic conditions for their harvests.

Despite the challenges faced in the first agricultural season, Matedo expressed optimism regarding the possibility of recovery in the second season, should climatic conditions become favorable.

Local producers expressed their concern about climate irregularity but many showed determination to overcome the obstacles. (Mozanorte)
