Teachers resist returning to Quissanga while students lose academic year

The secondary school in Quissanga, Cabo Delgado province, faces significant difficulties in terms of teachers. To this effect, on April 11, 2025, all teachers in the Quissanga district gathered for a meeting.

The meeting was attended by the provincial director of education and human development, the director of the district education service of Quissanga, and other officials from the education sector.

The purpose of the meeting was to assess the possibility of resuming activities in the Quissanga district.

According to the teachers' explanation, they claim that the resumption of activities involves all staff members, along with the district director.

In turn, the director of the District Service for Education, Youth, and Technology states that he does not have an official document for his return to the district, only for the teachers.

The teachers argue that if the head of services is meant to be in the district, why are the offices located in Pemba? Without the heads going to the district, the teachers will not go either.

Meanwhile, many children are losing the academic year due to the lack of teachers in the Quissanga district.

Furthermore, parents and guardians have brought this case to the highest authority, but to this day, there is no solution.

The Quissanga district, in all its villages, is experiencing a shortage of teachers; students are not studying this year. (Seven Mussa)
