Vendors at the Chauma market
in Nacala-Porto district, Nampula province located in the highly populated Triângulo
neighborhood, are exasperated with the failure to remove garbage for over two
months.
This Thursday morning, a Mozanorte team visited the site and was
confronted with a scene where children are frequently present, collecting solid
waste for reuse, putting their health at risk.
The vendors at the small Chauma market, near the HCP building in the
lower part of the city, told our reporters they are worried and unsure what to
do, especially since they are charged daily fees by the municipality.
"It's very sad to have to live with this garbage here that hasn't been removed for a long time. Even children, when they leave school, walk past here and play in this spot," one of the market traders told us.
Matias Rogério, an electronic money agent, said, "We pay the
municipality 800 Meticais annually, but they have forgotten about us with this
garbage. It's very complicated to talk about this issue."
It's worth noting that this scene of solid waste accumulation is not
unique to this location. Garbage is visible in other parts of Nacala city as
well, creating a foul smell. Gabriel
