Citizens in the district of Murrupula, in Nampula Province, have reported alleged cases of negligence by health professionals at the local hospital, a situation which, according to accounts, has put the lives of several patients at risk.
According to complaints made by family members and patients, there is slow service delivery, lack of attention to critically ill patients, and behavior considered inappropriate by some professionals, who are said to be more focused on using mobile phones than on the clinical monitoring of patients.
There are also reports of patients being instructed to keep their distance from health workers while waiting for care.
One of the most serious cases reported occurred recently, when a patient suffering from diarrhea and vomiting remained hospitalized at Murrupula District Hospital for several hours without effective treatment. When the decision was made to transfer the patient to Nampula Central Hospital (HCN), the referral hospital, the condition was already critical. The patient died during the transfer.
Complainants state that negligence is not limited to this case, also pointing to delays in basic procedures such as tooth extractions and a lack of priority in attending to patients in urgent conditions.
According to residents, the situation reflects a crisis of professional ethics and responsibility in the local health sector.
The population is appealing to health authorities for urgent intervention, including holding those involved accountable and renewing the technical staff, in order to ensure humane and effective healthcare services. (Mozanorte)
